The eZ Publish Platform team spent the last six months developing new features, enhancements, testing and improving the v5.1. But now time has come to congratulate the team and contributors for their work on this brand new release!
The 5.2 version has code-name Aconcagua and it’s a STS (Short Term Support) release and it brings fifteen new features and over a hundred fixed bugs. The next version 5.3 will be Long Term Support release).
Here are some of main improvements in eZ Publish Platform 5.2. Aconcagua
Improved performances
This version features the radically improved caching system reducing the page load-time of your web applications by 400%! Really impressive. The figure below shows comparison to 4.x series.
Improved translations
The native multi-site support in v5.2 provides a high level of freedom in defining a content architecture. Also, eZ Publish Platform 5.2 covers up to 62 languages and has integrated content translation capabilities.
Upgraded Symfony2 Framework
The underlying Symfony2 Full Stack has been upgraded to the 2.3 Long Term Support version providing a high stability at the heart of the CMS. This move also provide opportunities for eZ Publish customer to easier find developers.
New commenting services
A brand new commenting system now enables reliance on buil-in Disqus or even Facebook external User Generated Comments managements. Of course, you are free to integrate any other UGC solution if you want to. ez Publish has an advanced set of APIs, PHP and REST, making all sorts of content manipulation much easier.
A Javascript-based client is one of the bih novelties speeding up the creating of client-side applications and assisting on both sides back-end and client-side.
eZ Publish dual kernel
This release, as well as entire 5.x series, relies on a dual kernel architecture. In reality this means that the new architecture, which relies on APIs and Symfony2 Framework, provides ability to easily transfer all development done on 4 versions. However, the New Stack should be the preferred choice when developing new sites.
