This version improves some features such as tax calculations, performance, security and stability.

Functional

There are almost 350 improvements related to admin order creation, boosting product quality, import and export feature, payment methods and web API components.

Performance

New version provides a better shopping experience through faster loading of pages in the checkout process and optimized caching and thus minimizing the number of cached pages needed to be refreshed.

The admin panel performances are also improved.

Enhanced Tax Calculations

Magento v1.8 eliminates potential rounding errors and improves tax calculation accuracy for VAT merchants.

Security

Magento Community Edition 1.8.0 also strengthened the security.
